2019 Scholarship Recipients

Through donations and raffle sales, NYSOMA sponsors a Scholarship program for participants of Odyssey of the Mind in New York. Applicants must currently be high school seniors or first year post-secondary school enrollees. This year 3 applicants were awarded a $750 scholarship from NYSOMA.

Erin Morrison is a senior at Broadalbin Perth High School, ultimately planning to study communications and emergency preparedness (always good skills for an OMER!!) at the University of Albany. She has a ten year career in Odyssey and has used her considerable talents in script writing and costume design as Assistant Director in her Community Theater.

Abigail Deniz is a freshman at the Cleveland Art Institute doing a BFA in Illustration. Originally from Fairport NY she has competed in Odyssey every year since 2009, finally making it to World Finals last year, where her team placed 11th. When not creating masterpieces as an artist she is breaking boards as a Black Belt in Karate.

Matthew Kreher is a Senior at Geneseo HS. After dallying with problems 2 and 4 he found his true vocation in the vehicle problem making it to World Finals on five consecutive occasions, winning on two occasions and coming in the top six on the other occasions. He and his team attained the unique honor in 2017 of winning a Ranatra Fusca award at regionals, states and Worlds in the same year.
